HINTON COMETS
Head Coach: MATT LANE
0-10
Hinton heads into the new season determined to turn last year’s hard lessons into progress, powered by a strong offseason and a roster that has bought into the daily grind. First-year head coach Matt Lane believes his team is trending up, noting, “We are looking to improve upon last year’s performance. We are coming off a strong spring and see a lot of upside and potential. These guys are working hard to get better every day. We like where we are at, and believe this season will look much better.”
The Comets will operate out of a power spread scheme on offense, marrying a “run to win” philosophy with an efficient passing game when opportunities arise. Junior quarterback Jeremy Wright (5-9, 160) started three games last season and has a chance to be a difference maker this season, while junior receiver Jeffery Humphrey (6-1, 175) returns as the leading receiver and a proven big-play threat. Senior lineman Eli Campbell (6-3, 320) anchors the offensive front, joined by junior lineman Garrison Dilocker (5-9, 200), senior running back Jack Brummett (5-10, 180), and sophomore receiver Noah House (5-7, 140) as key pieces in a unit that returns six offensive starters.
Defensively, Hinton will use a multiple 4-3 alignment with an emphasis on physical play from the opening snap. Senior defensive lineman Tyler Brack (6-0, 205) and senior linebacker Tyson Stiner (5-7, 170), described as a “big time hitter,” are expected to lead a defense that returns six starters and aims to “limit big plays and create turnovers.” Junior defensive back Jeremy Wright and junior defensive back Jeffery Humphrey will help solidify the secondary, while junior lineman Isaak Hernandez (5-11, 215) and senior defensive back Wyatt Butler (6-0, 175) round out a group determined to set a more physical tone this fall.
