At Central High School, senior Landon Johnson is known for being more than just an athlete; he’s a competitor, a leader, and a role model. A four-sport standout who plays football, basketball, baseball, and golf, Landon balances his time across seasons with a determination that has made him one of the most respected students in the school.
His motivation, he says, runs deep in his family.
“My biggest role models are my dad and grandpa,” Landon said. “They were both really good and had gold high school records, so it’s always something to chase, trying to beat them.”
That drive shows up not only in games but also in the classroom. Landon credits one teacher in particular for helping him stay focused and disciplined.
“The teacher who has had the most impact on me is definitely our science teacher, Mrs. Gatewood,” he said. “She pushes everyone to be the best and never misses anything, even when she doesn’t have a kid playing.”
Practice time might seem routine for some athletes, but for Landon, it’s another chance to sharpen his skills, especially when he’s matched up against his closest friend.
“I enjoy competing against Luke Thrasher the most,” he said. “He’s my best friend, but we’re always going back and forth with each other, so it’s always good to go against him.”
While Landon is often in the spotlight, he’s quick to point out others who deserve recognition.
“Jamison Scott is the least appreciated player,” Landon said. “He’s our catcher, and he will rarely let a bad pitch by. He’s a solid hitter and has saved us in a lot of big games.”
For Landon, being an athlete at Central High is about more than wins or stats. It’s about pride, tradition, and setting an example.
“It means a lot to represent the school and be a role model to some of the younger kids,” he said. “I just hope they see how much it means to give your all.”
