Chickasha’s Lane Jay – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Gerron Smith / Shelter Insurance

Toughness and versatility define Chickasha junior Lane Jay, who has already made multiple state trips while balancing key roles in both football and baseball. “I play football and my positions are linebacker and tight end. I also play baseball. I play third base and catcher,” Jay said.

Two deep postseason runs stand out early in his career. “Going to state in baseball freshman year and sophomore year,” he said when asked which accomplishment he is most proud of. Those experiences have shaped his mentality when the pressure rises. “To stay strong when things are tough,” Jay said of what sports have taught him that makes him a better person.

In the classroom, one teacher has made learning memorable. “It would be my art teacher because she super nice and her class is fun to take,” he said. At home, his foundation comes from family. “My parents because they have shown me everything I know,” Jay said.

A veteran teammate helped him find his place early on. “Lane Johnson, he took me under his wing and showed me the ropes and took care of me when I didn’t know what to do,” Jay said. That guidance helped him grow into a tougher, more confident player.

Wearing Chickasha across his chest brings out his pride. “I get to show how tough Chickasha is and how much we fight,” he said of his favorite part about representing his high school as an athlete. One line of advice sticks with him in tough moments. “When you give all you’ve got, dig deeper,” Jay said.

He makes sure to recognize everyone who has invested in his journey. “Thank you to my parents and all of my coaches who got me to where I am today,” he said.

On the professional stage, one catcher sets the standard he chases. “Yodier Molina because he was the best at what he does and was full of confidence at all times,” Jay said.
