MERRITT OILERS
Coach: DUSTIN BEASLEY
4-6
After a 4-6 campaign in 2025, Merritt believes better days are ahead. Head coach Dustin Beasley, entering his second year leading the Oilers, sees a group that is ready to take a step forward across the board. “The team is expected to make improvements in all facets of the game,” Beasley said, pointing to a strong core of returning starters on both sides of the ball. With continuity in the coaching staff and experience on the field, Merritt is focused on closing the gap in a competitive district.
On offense, the Oilers will continue to run a spread scheme that is versatile in both the run and pass game. Quarterback Aaron Partain (6-1, 180) returns to direct the attack and will have plenty of options around him. Running back Gavin Bashaw (5-9, 185) is a key piece in the backfield, giving Merritt a physical runner who can keep the chains moving and help control tempo. On the perimeter, the Oilers feature length and athleticism with receivers Jaden Hartman (6-3, 180), Jaxton Hartman (6-3, 180) and senior target Trent Shinn (6-1, 165), a trio capable of stretching the field and winning one-on-one matchups. Up front, lineman Toby Wilhite (5-7, 185) helps anchor an experienced offensive line that returns eight starters, giving Partain and Bashaw the support they need to execute the balanced game plan.
Defensively, Merritt brings back eight starters in a 3-4 alignment built on movement, multiple coverages and pressure from all levels. Up front, Tanner Wilhite (5-7, 175) and Malachi Gordon (6-1, 255) lead the defensive line, combining quickness and strength to disrupt opposing run games. Inside, Bronx Johnson (5′-1, 185) provides stability at nose, while linebackers Connor Crabb (5-11, 170) and Jack Watkins (6-1, 175) give the Oilers range and physicality at the second level. With a scheme designed to attack protections and keep quarterbacks uncomfortable, Merritt’s defense aims to create negative plays and give the offense short fields. If the Oilers can pair their returning experience with the improved execution Beasley expects, they have a chance to make meaningful strides in 2026.
