2026 Elk City Football Preview – Presented by Paul Jones Drug

Elk City Elks
Head Coach: Zac Maynard
2025 Record: 5-6

With a roster that blends battle-tested veterans and hungry underclassmen, Elk City believes this fall can be the breakthrough the program has been building toward. Head coach Zac Maynard, now in his fifth year, sees “lots of good young talent, mixed with several older players who have spent a lot of time on the field the last couple of years,” and that combination has the Elks optimistic about taking the next step in a tough slate.

Offensively, Elk City leans on a heavy run scheme that fits the program’s identity of physical, downhill football. Senior receiver Conley Poole (5-9, 165) gives the Elks a reliable target on the perimeter, but the emphasis will be on controlling the line of scrimmage, shortening games, and letting an experienced group up front set the tone. With multiple starters back, Maynard expects balance between a punishing ground game and timely shots in the passing game to keep defenses honest.

On defense, Elk City will line up in an attacking 4-3 structure designed to create negative plays and force opponents into uncomfortable situations. Linebacker Nate Miller (5-11, 210) returns after a standout season that included 83 tackles, and he will be asked to anchor a unit that brings back five defensive starters. The Elks want to fly to the football, play fast, and let their experience show in alignment, communication, and tackling in space as they navigate a demanding schedule.
