Altus’ Esteban Rodríguez – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Work Ready Altus

Esteban Rodríguez, a senior at Altus High School, has built his athletic journey on discipline, resilience, and pride. A dual-sport athlete competing in both cross country and soccer, Rodríguez plays a key role on the soccer field as a midfielder and forward, where his energy and work ethic set the tone for his team.

One of his most memorable moments came during his sophomore year, when Altus defeated powerhouse Heritage Hall, widely considered the best team in the district. For Rodríguez, that victory wasn’t just about the scoreboard. It was the result of countless hours of hard work, unity, and belief in one another. That experience solidified his understanding of what a team can accomplish when everyone is committed to the same goal.

Through sports, Rodríguez has learned that success doesn’t come easy. He credits cross country and soccer for teaching him discipline and dedication, lessons that extend far beyond competition. “Through hard discipline and dedication, you can succeed and persevere,” he says, words he lives by every day.

Rodríguez draws inspiration from his parents, who he says model strength and selflessness. No matter the challenges they face, they continue to work hard, provide for their family, and help others in need. Their example fuels his drive to succeed both on and off the field.

He also credits teammates Alan Chavez and Nathan Cuéllar for pushing him to improve and for teaching him valuable life lessons beyond soccer. Their influence helped shape not only his athletic mindset but his character as well.

Wearing Altus colors is something Rodríguez takes pride in. Representing his school brings a sense of connection to his teammates, his community, and something bigger than himself.

He also carries with him advice from his mother: no matter what struggles arise, God is always by your side. Combined with inspiration from soccer legend Lionel Messi, who exemplifies the power of hard work, Rodríguez continues to chase his goals.

Above all, he remains grateful to his parents and grandparents for their unwavering support, especially during moments when giving up felt easier than pushing forward.
