Hobart’s Rylee Herbst – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by McCollom Market and Small Town Tees

Rylee Herbst is a standout 10th grader at Hobart High School, known for her versatility and drive across multiple sports. Whether she’s racing through the finish line in cross country and track, perfecting her swing on the golf course, or leading cheers from the sidelines, Rylee brings the same level of focus and enthusiasm to everything
she does. Her dedication to excellence has made her one of Hobart’s most respected young athletes.

Motivation, for Rylee, comes from more than just internal determination.

“Motivation for me comes from my family, friends, coaches, and most importantly, Jesus,” she said.

Her family has always been at the heart of her athletic journey.

“My parents are some of the biggest role models in my life,” Rylee added. “They always find a way to show up for me even when they have other things going on.”

On campus, Coach Reeves has played a major role in her development, both as an athlete and as a person.

“Coach Reeves has had the biggest impact on my life,” Rylee said. “She is constantly pushing me to do my best even when it’s hard.”

That mindset, perseverance despite challenge, is what Rylee believes makes an athlete successful.

“If there’s one thing that my coaches have taught me, it’s that you have to handle hard better,” she said. “Even when your body is telling you to stop, you have to keep going and push through the pain.”

One of her proudest moments came when she qualified for state in track, proving her hard work had paid off. Competing against rivals like Tralynn White also keeps her sharp and motivated. She finds equal joy in pushing herself alongside her best friend and teammate, Kobi Jones, at practice.

Beyond sports, Rylee stays active in FCA, FTA, FCCLA, Junior Ambassadors, Math Club, and Bearcat Voices. She
admires Olympic hurdler Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone for her balance between career and faith, something Rylee
strives for too.

“It takes lots of responsibility to balance school and sports,” she said. “Sometimes I’ll miss a few days for a sport, but I make sure everything gets done when I’m back.”
