Even before setting foot on a varsity court, Austin Rodriguez has already made his presence known in Olustee‑El Dorado basketball circles. Coming off a breakout junior high season, the rising freshman has built a reputation as a prolific scorer and a dedicated young athlete with his best basketball still ahead of him.
Last year, Rodriguez averaged an impressive 22.6 points per game—even more remarkable considering junior high games are played in six‑minute quarters. His consistent scoring and fearless approach helped fuel a dramatic turnaround for the program. Just two seasons ago, the team won a single game. Last year, they racked up nine victories, with Rodriguez leading the charge offensively and setting a new standard for what was possible.
“Austin averaged 22.6 ppg last year as an eighth grader in our junior high games,” head coach Todd Whittemore said. “Our junior high team only won one game two seasons ago and last year, we improved to nine wins. We are expecting big things from him this year on varsity.”
That confidence speaks volumes about Rodriguez’s talent and potential. As he makes the jump to high‑school competition, he brings not just raw scoring ability but also the work ethic and maturity needed to compete at the next level. The transition to varsity will challenge him against bigger, stronger defenders—but those who’ve watched him play know Rodriguez thrives on challenges.
Beyond his natural athleticism, Rodriguez stands out for his composure and love of the game. Teammates and coaches praise his focus, humility, and willingness to learn, qualities that suggest his impact will extend well beyond the stat sheet.
As the newest addition to the Diamondbacks’ varsity roster, Austin Rodriguez represents both the future and the promise of Olustee‑El Dorado basketball—a young standout ready to turn potential into performance one game at a time.
