Jill Abernathy is the proud mother of two busy student-athletes who keep her life filled with energy, pride, and purpose. Her oldest son, Cade, is a 16-year-old sophomore at Altus High School. Cade plays on the Bulldog golf team, where his focus, patience, and competitive spirit truly shine. When he’s not at school or on the course, he’s helping out on the family farm, learning firsthand the value of hard work and responsibility.
Her younger son, Drake, is 13 and a seventh grader at Altus Junior High. Following in his brother’s footsteps, Drake also plays golf for his school team and rarely spends a day away from the course. When he does, you’ll likely find him outdoors fishing or hunting, two of his other favorite pastimes. Between school, sports, and outdoor adventures, there’s never a dull moment in the Abernathy household.
Jill is a full-time stay-at-home mom who wears many hats. She volunteers regularly at her sons’ schools, organizing class fundraisers, coordinating golf events, and leading school-wide activities. As she puts it, she’s a driver, snack provider, and devoted cheerleader rolled into one. Beyond school and golf, she helps orchestrate the Greenbelt Summer Golf League in Altus, giving back to local golfers and supporting youth programs.
When Jill finds a rare moment to herself, she enjoys needlepointing, running, and spending time outdoors. As a family, the Abernathys love traveling, snow skiing, and exploring new golf courses together.
The hardest part of parenting athletes, Jill admits, is helping them balance academics with the drive to give 100% on the course. She and her husband emphasize priorities and work ethic, teaching their sons that success comes from effort, both in sports and life.
For Jill, raising her family in Altus has been a blessing. The Altus community and Altus Air Force Base families always step up to support local kids and school programs. Altus Public Schools live by the motto “Once a Bulldog, Always a Bulldog”, a saying Jill believes reflects the pride, unity, and heart of their hometown.
