ALTUS LADY BULLDOGS
Coach: Robert Garrison
OUTLOOK
The Altus Lady Bulldogs enter the season facing a rebuilding year, but head coach Robert Garrison believes his group will compete with determination as younger athletes step into larger roles.
“This year will be a rebuilding time for our Lady Bulldogs,” Garrison said. “We will be depending on quite an underclassman to try to fill some big holes that were left from the seniors last year. We have a number of athletes that have been injured in their other sports and that will be keeping them from running this season.
Despite those challenges, sophomore Samara Stevens is expected to be a cornerstone for the program.
“Although just a sophomore, Samara will be counted on to fill a number of the holes we currently have,” Garrison said. “She made it to State last year with the 3200 Relay. This year she will be joining the 1600 Relay. She will also go back to competing in the 100 Hurdles and 300 Hurdles. She might also have to run on our 800 Relay. Samara is willing to fill in wherever she will be needed at each meet.”
Another key returner is underclassman Kyera Osborn, who already brings state experience to the track. “Kyera qualified for State last year in the 300 Hurdles and 1600 Relay,” Garrison said. “This year looks to be an even better year for her. She left State last year a little angry that she just missed making the 300H final as a freshman. She has already mentioned how she wants to get her focus on that event and be on the podium this year.”
Laura Bittner has quickly made a positive impression after joining the program.
“Laura is new to our program this year,” Garrison said. “She moved here over the summer from Illinois. She is one of the politest people you’d meet. During workouts, she always gives 100% and is very receptive on how to make herself a better runner and as a coach, that is one of the best attributes you can ask for is an athlete who wants to improve.”
Additional contributors include Kenzie Pokorny and Aunika Black.
“Kenzie Pokorny- Hard working athlete. 100H and 300H plus relays,” Garrison said. “Aunika Black- Finally healthy after two seasons…she will be running the 800, 1600, and relays for us.”
With youth, versatility, and resilience, the Lady Bulldogs will look to grow throughout the season and compete at a high level.”
