Comanche High School’s Ralph “RJ” Roberts – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Dusty Corp / Shelter Insurance

Ralph “RJ” Roberts has become a steady presence for the Comanche High School golf program, pairing a composed mental game with a passion for competing alongside friends. Now a senior, Roberts has embraced his role as a leader while continuing to fine-tune the details of his game.

Roberts credits his parents as the driving force behind his success and work ethic. “My mom and dad give me the inspiration to do anything,” Roberts said. “They sacrifice everything to make for sure I have everything I need.” That support has helped him navigate the ups and downs of competitive golf while staying grounded in his goals.

In the classroom, Roberts enjoys his agriculture classes, citing Ag with Mrs. Morgan as his favorite. On the course, he leans on his putter more than any other club, understanding where scores are truly made. “Putter, because it doesn’t matter how well you hit it if you can’t put it in the hole,” Roberts said.

Some of Roberts’ favorite memories in the game have come at Duncan Country Club, a place that feels like a second home. “Because all the kids I have grown up playing with play there,” he said. He once fired a 67 at his home course while playing with a group of buddies, a round that highlighted both his talent and comfort in that environment.

Away from competition, Roberts is often still at the course, spending his free time practicing or playing with friends. He says he has focused heavily on sharpening his mental approach, calling it “100%” the area he has worked on the most. Golf has reinforced a simple but powerful lesson he plans to carry with him beyond high school: “To never give up and fight until the end.”
