Doing whatever it takes to win defines Charlie Berry’s approach this season at Granite High School. “Do whatever the team needs to win,” Berry said. “Whether that’s getting on base, moving runners, or making key plays.”
That mindset has blended well with a positive team culture. “Team morale has been really positive overall,” she said. “Everyone’s been supportive, showing up consistently, and keeping things fun while still staying competitive.”
As the season has progressed, growth has shown up most in how the Warriors function together. “The biggest improvement has been our teamwork and communication,” Berry said. “We’re talking more on defense, supporting each other after mistakes, and working better as a unit instead of as individuals.”
Those improvements connect directly to Granite’s goals. “Our main goals are to compete consistently, keep improving as a team, and put ourselves in a position to win games,” she said. “We’re working toward that by showing up regularly, communicating better on and off the field, staying positive through ups and downs, and focusing on doing the small things right.”
Depth has helped make that possible. “I think our biggest strength right now is our depth and balance,” Berry said. “We don’t rely on just one or two people, everyone can contribute in different ways.”
Berry contributes defensively from multiple spots. “I play rover and shortstop,” she said.
At the plate and on the bases, awareness matters. “When reading a defense, I pay attention to their positioning, how they react to the batter, and any tendencies they show,” Berry said. “I look for the gaps, and how aggressive or cautious they are.”
Preparation starts long before first pitch. “I get ready by doing a good warm-up, keeping my arms and legs strong, and making sure I stay hydrated,” she said.
Once the game begins, her focus narrows. “When I step on the field, my mindset is to stay confident, focused, and present,” Berry said. “I trust my preparation, play one pitch at a time, and do whatever I can to help the team compete and win.”
Legacy matters just as much as results. “I want my legacy at Granite to be remembered as someone who worked hard, supported teammates, and always gave 110% on and off the field,” she said.
The chemistry behind the scenes fuels that effort. “Something fans or outsiders might not know is how much fun we have together while still staying competitive,” Berry said.
Berry is a junior at Granite. “After high school I plan to pursue a nursing degree and from that become an aesthetic nurse.”
