After finishing last season with a solid 14-10 record, the Mangum Tigers girls’ basketball team enters the new season with a mix of experience and youthful potential. Under the leadership of fourth-year head coach Kelli Ann King, the team looks to build on last year’s successes while integrating a young roster into a competitive high school basketball environment.
The Tigers return four starters, including a unique pair of leaders in twin seniors Hallie (5-11, Jr.)
and Gracie (5-5, Jr.) Smith. The sisters have embraced their leadership roles, setting an example both on and off the court. Their bond creates a special dynamic that fosters teamwork, resilience, and unity among their teammates, a quality that will be invaluable as the younger players continue to develop.
While the team’s youth presents challenges, it also offers growth opportunities. Four players have shown scoring potential, and if the younger athletes can quickly adapt to the speed and physicality of high school play, Mangum could have a well-rounded offensive attack. Hallie and Gracie are poised to guide their teammates, not only through instruction but by modeling work ethic and competitive spirit, helping to translate potential into consistent performance.
Defense will be a cornerstone of the Tigers’ strategy this season. The offseason emphasized skill development and defensive positioning, and the coaching staff is eager to see how those efforts translate into game situations. A strong defensive foundation could create transition opportunities and set the tone for the team’s overall performance.
Beyond wins and losses, this season is about growth, cohesion, and establishing a lasting team identity. The blend of seasoned leadership and fresh talent offers an exciting dynamic, with the potential for significant development and memorable achievements.
Abree Hopper (5-7, Fr.), Daviana Davis (5-6, Fr.), Hanna Stehr (5-5, So.), and Milly Gonzales (5-5, Fr.) will also play a big role in the team’s success this season.
