Duncan’s Carson Carrio – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Taco Tico

Duncan High School senior Carson Carrio is a multi-sport athlete who strives to be the best he can be. As a point guard and shooting guard for the Demons, Carrio brings leadership, composure, and competitiveness to the court every time he steps out in red and blue.

“My parents and my love for the game keep me motivated,” Carrio said. “My dad has always been a very hard worker, and my brother was super competitive in high school. They’ve both pushed me to give everything I have.”

Carrio’s commitment to success is built on dedication and hours of preparation. “Being successful in this sport has taken several hundred hours in the gym and playing against the best,” he said. That dedication paid off in one of his favorite memories, celebrating the Black Diamond Tournament win with Empire, a moment that reminded him how rewarding the grind can be.

Two of the biggest influences on Carrio’s high school journey have been Coach Hill and Coach Knox. “They’ve both put so much trust in me and push me to be my best every day,” he said. Their confidence in him has helped shape his leadership both on and off the floor.

When it comes to rivalries, Carrio doesn’t shy away from competition. “I enjoy beating Comanche and Altus,” he said with a grin. “I know a lot of the Comanche guys, so it’s always nice to beat them, and it’s always a good game with Altus.”

Carrio also values the relationships built through the game, especially with teammate Jayce Ramirez, who “always has great energy and is very uplifting.”

Off the court, Carrio stays active in the internship program and helps with basketball camps, giving back to younger players. Balancing academics and athletics is all about discipline, he said: “If you want to be good in your sport, you have to put in extra work, but you can’t forget about school.”

For Carrio, few things mean more than wearing the name Duncan across his chest. “Representing Duncan means a lot,” he said. “Playing in front of a big crowd and helping Duncan win is something I’ve always dreamed of.”
