ELGIN LADY OWLS
Coach: TANNER MERAZ
2024-25: 7-17
The Elgin Lady Owls are ready to take flight in the 2025-2026 basketball season under head coach Tanner Meraz, now in his third year leading the program. After finishing 7-17 last year, Meraz and his squad are excited for a fresh start, a new classification, and the return of several key contributors who bring experience and toughness to the floor.
“We’re really looking forward to this season,” Meraz said. “We’ve got six girls back who played significant minutes for us last year, and we’ve got a few players returning from injury who will make a big difference. The girls have worked hard, and the chemistry has really started to come together.”
The Lady Owls’ schedule will look a bit different this year following their move down to Class 4A, but Meraz believes that shift could set his team up for a competitive and exciting season. With a deeper rotation and a healthy roster, Elgin is focused on playing with energy and discipline on both ends of the court.
Leading the charge is Kelby Carter, a force in the post who brings strength, rebounding, and scoring ability inside. “Kelby plays with a lot of heart,” Meraz said. “She’s a tough matchup for anyone down low, and we’re expecting her to have a big year for us.”
Another key piece is Kynslie Maples, a versatile player who can impact the game from the perimeter or in the paint. Known for her hustle and competitiveness, Maples can change momentum with her effort. “Kynslie just plays so hard every possession,” Meraz said. “She’s one of those players every coach loves to have.”
Rounding out the team’s core is Addyson Hatfield, a true team-first player who gives maximum effort every time she steps on the court. “Addyson’s just a great kid,” Meraz said. “She does everything you ask her to do and makes everyone around her better.”
With experience, leadership, and a renewed sense of confidence, the Lady Owls are determined to make this season one to remember in Elgin.
