Walters Cheer Team Preview

Under the leadership of Head Coach Meggs Nease, the Walters cheer team continues to embody what it means to be united, hardworking, and full of heart. Now in her fifth year as head coach, Nease says this group’s biggest strength lies in their fearless attitude and willingness to try anything.

“If we see a stunt we like, they’re all in,” Nease said. “If it falls, they figure out what went wrong and try it again. They’re incredible problem-solvers and never give up. Even when they’re exhausted, if I ask for one more run, they give 100%. I couldn’t ask for more than that.”

At the forefront of the squad’s success are several standout members who exemplify the team’s values. Senior captain Karly Penn sets the tone with her leadership and unwavering commitment. She’s known for holding her teammates accountable while keeping the energy high and positive. Sophomore Annie Fremin has quickly established herself as a key performer, balancing talent with determination and infectious enthusiasm that lifts those around her. Meanwhile, sophomore Rickiya Graham brings kindness, integrity, and encouragement to every practice and performance, always putting the team first and leading through example.

Beyond the sidelines, the Walters cheerleaders have built a strong sense of community and sisterhood. In late September, the team hosted its annual Mini Cheer Clinic, welcoming 70 mini cheerleaders from Pre-K through fifth grade. The event was a highlight of the season, filled with laughter, learning, and leadership. Before the clinic, the team gathered at Coach Nease’s home for dinner, where they made snacks for each of the mini cheerleaders, a small gesture that showcased their big hearts.

With a Christmas retreat already on the horizon and memories being made along the way, Nease says this team is special in every way. “This group of young ladies is such a gift to my life,” she said. “They’re an absolute joy to coach and have blessed my heart abundantly.”

Through dedication, teamwork, and an unshakable bond, the Walters cheerleaders continue to shine on the sidelines and beyond.
