For Asia Chambray, a junior at MacArthur High School, cheering for her school is about more than just supporting and rooting for teams to victory. She also sees it as a way to lead, inspire, and push herself to new levels. Whether she’s a back spot, main base, or side base during stunts, Asia takes pride in her versatility and dedication, knowing that her role directly impacts the success of the team.
“My teammates motivate me every day,” Asia said. “They push me to be a great role model, and I want to do the same for them.” She credits her captains from her freshman and sophomore years as major influences, noting that their guidance and skill level challenged her to work harder and develop into the athlete she is today.
Outside of cheer, Asia finds support and encouragement from her history teacher and coach, Mrs. Kathy Sauders. “She helps us really understand the material in class and stays on top of any missing work,” Asia explained. “She’s also one of my biggest supporters, both academically and athletically.”
For Asia, success in cheer requires a combination of skill, attitude, and effort. “You absolutely need a good attitude and one hundred percent effort all the time,” she said. Her commitment to these principles was rewarded this summer at cheer camp, where she achieved a career highlight by being elected as team officer, a role that recognizes her leadership and dedication to the squad.
When it comes to competition, Asia looks forward to matchups with Bishop McGuinness, while practices with teammate Madison Isham push her to improve her skills and effort. She also appreciates the dedication of her teammates like Jalise Bhagan, whose consistent hard work and energy often go unnoticed.
Asia balances cheer, academics, and extracurricular activities like Multicultural Club, Student Council, and Epsilon Delta Xi through careful planning and reminders. “It takes a full calendar of reminders to keep up with everything,” she said.
For Asia, representing MacArthur High means giving her all in every stunt, every cheer, and every duty. “It’s about coming with every bit of spirit I have and putting that into my responsibilities on the team,” she said. With her leadership, determination, and positive attitude, Asia Chambray continues to set a standard both on the mat and in her school community.
