Velma-Alma senior Ryker Sanner is the kind of athlete who leads with both passion and purpose. A standout middle linebacker and fullback, Ryker is also involved in showing pigs and is a member of Beta Club. For him, sports aren’t just about wins—they’re about legacy, growth, and giving his all for his community.
“What motivates me most are the older players who came before me and the younger kids who are watching now,” Ryker shared. “I remember being one of those little kids behind the stands, dreaming of the day I’d get to represent my school.”
Raised on hard work and discipline, Ryker credits his dad as his biggest role model: “He taught me how to be a man and push myself every day.” In the classroom, Mr. Davies, his agriculture teacher, had a lasting impact. “He showed me how much the little things matter.”
Ryker’s success has come through commitment—eating right, training consistently, and showing up ready to work. His proudest moment? Helping his team earn state runner-up, a season he says was unforgettable.
When it comes to rivalries, Wilson stands out. “They’re mouthy, so it always feels good to beat them.” On the practice field, Ryker pushes and is pushed by teammate Landon Swisher, while he praises Jud Womack as one of the most underrated players on the team. “He may not be the biggest or strongest, but he comes in every day ready to get better.”
Outside of football, Ryker enjoys following Marcus Luttrell on social media, inspired by the Navy SEAL’s stories and mindset. His favorite pre-game hype songs? “Whiskey in the Jar” by Metallica and “Dracula” by Rob Zombie.
Balancing sports and school is not a struggle for Ryker. “You just go in every day, focus, and get it done.” Representing Velma-Alma means everything to him, especially now that he’s the player young fans look up to.
As for the future, Ryker’s dream is to play for OU. And if football wasn’t in the picture? “I’d be showing pigs full-time,” he said.
Ryker Sanner is a true leader—on the field, in the barn, and throughout his school.
