Some athletes play a sport because they love the game and want to be a part of it. For others, it is the social aspect and building camaraderie. But for Addison Richards, it is somewhere in the middle.
“I enjoy playing the game of soccer,” she said. “I am very competitive and have a desire to win and I enjoy the relationships that I make with my teammates.”
Richards is a junior at Duncan High School. She can play just about anywhere on the field but most of the time, you will find her as a defender. Outside of sports, she is also involved in the National Honor Society, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Jolly Jills Club, and the Student Advisory Club.
Addison’s teammates are a group that she is thankful for because they help each other grow and improve their game.
“Alexis Eades is my favorite teammate to go up against in practice,” she said. “We have played with each other since we were little so it’s always a fun time to play against each other and make it a competition. An underrated member of our team is Sydney Miller. She has always been positive and a leader on the field. She’s a great teammate and is always there to help others.”
When the team prepares to compete, they will always be ready to face whoever is on the schedule. But Richards says that there is one team that is always more fun to get the win against.
“I probably enjoy beating MacArthur because they are our rivals and they play very aggressive and always want to make it a tough game,” she said. “It’s always such an aggressive game and a big thing to beat them.”
Throughout her life, there have been people that have impacted Addison’s life, but there are a couple of people that have always been there for her.
“Some of my biggest role models are my parents because they have always been there for me and pushed me to be the best I can at anything and everything I do,” she said.
