Ok Ag Credit FFA Spotlight with Chayse Marshall of MacArthur High School

MacArthur High School sophomore Chayse Marshall is a member of the FFA chapter at school, which she joined when she entered the eighth grade.

“I first got involved in eighth grade and now I’m a sophomore but honestly, I have been around it my entire life. I would say my dad encouraged me to get involved because he says how much I liked helping him out,” said Marshall.

There are several activities Marshall is involved in with the FFA chapter, and she said meeting new people is something she enjoys the most.

“I started with showing sheep then moved into opening and closing ceremonies then creed and livestock judging and mechanics. I enjoyed being able to meet new people and gaining knowledge about the world we live in and the job I would like to have,” said Marshall.

The sophomore has stepped away from playing softball but does plan to return soon. When she is on the field, Marshall said she enjoys playing catcher.

“My favorite position to play is catcher, there is a lot of action, and you are basically the leader on the field. Right now, I am taking a break from softball for this season to focus on my grades,” said Marshall.

Marshall said her teammates on the softball team welcomed her with open arms.

“They are welcoming and nice, and they have helped me through so much that they don’t even know about. They are genuinely good people, and I am very thankful I got to meet them,” said Marshall.

As for becoming a member of FFA, Marshall said you should have an open mind and give it a chance.

“I would say that you should try it and have an open mind about it because at first you may not like it as I did but if you stick with it then you will see what all it has to offer and most likely enjoy doing it.”
