Educators have an impact on each of the students that are in their classes. While the level of impact can differ, there is no doubt that they play a role in the future of their students. Rob Renshaw is a teacher and he says that hearing back from former students is something that he really enjoys.
“One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is having students come back and say their college history classes were easier because they learned it in my class,” he said.
Renshaw is in his sixth year as a teacher at Weatherford High School, where he teaches United States History to eleventh graders. Before coming to Weatherford, he taught at Bethany High School, Putnam City, Marlow, and Elgin.
The decision to become an educator was not a tough one for Rob, as he had a lot of impactful teachers in his life.
“Teaching is in my blood,” he said. “I am a fourth generation teacher. Some of the teachers that made an impact on me were my father, James Renshaw, coach Bob Malloy, coach Kenny Lamb, coach Gary Higgins, and coach Jim Sisney.”
Throughout his teaching career, Rob has had the opportunity to be surrounded by a number of really great teachers. Some of them have passed advice or words of wisdom to him to help him as a teacher. But he says that his favorite piece of advice came from his dad.
“The best bit of wisdom that I have received was when my dad told me, ‘don’t smile until Thanksgiving,’” he said.
When he is not in the classroom teaching, Renshaw has a few things he enjoys doing on his own time.
“Reloading, hunting, building furniture, and doing most anything outside are what I enjoy to do.”
