Renee Lee is a 1990 graduate of Weatherford High School. She has three sons, two of which have graduated from Weatherford, and one who is in his senior year. She says that she is proud to raise her sons in the school system that she graduated from because of how the community is always there for the school.
“I love the support that our community gives to our students and schools here in Weatherford,” she said. “Our community shows up to support in big ways, from providing team meals to endless donations, the Weatherford community supports its students. This makes my heart smile. We have some amazingly talented students that come out of WHS. From outstanding athletes to amazing artists, from talented actors to phenomenal band members. It has been a joy to watch these students continue to grow in their talents. I am always proud to be an Eagle.”
Her oldest son Spencer played soccer and graduated in 2016, while Carter played basketball and graduated in 2021. Nathan is a senior and plays soccer.
Throughout each of their sports careers, Lee has done her best to be there and support and encourage her boys. She says that while it may seem like a lot, it is something that she loves to do.
“I have had the benefit of having a schedule that has given me the opportunity to stay active and involved in each of my boys’ school and sports careers,” Renee stated. “When they were growing up my biggest desire was to be Mom and I have been blessed and able to enjoy countless sports games and school activities along the way. I savor each stage of this journey. The days seem long, but the years are truly short when you have reached the end of watching your children participate in sports and school activities.”
Having multiple kids involved in extracurricular activities can bring stressful schedules sometimes, but Renee says that making sure and keeping the priorities straight is the most important.
“As a parent, I feel it is important to encourage and support our children in all their activities including sports,” she said. “I have learned to embrace this more as the years have flown by. Sports provide a lot of life skills, from winning highs to disappointing losses, sports teach us how to manage ourselves along with how to manage relationships with teammates. It teaches us the importance of how to handle criticism and correction from coaches and teachers. Sports build character and perseverance that will be used throughout all walks of life. I have been able to watch this growth in my children and their teammates along our journey and that has been fun to experience.”
