When Kamri Bryant joined FFA in the eighth grade, she knew it was something she wanted to do for her entire high school career. Thanks to the encouragement of family, Bryant jumped in and never looked back.
“My grandpa and my dad both encouraged me to get involved in FFA. My dad was involved in his local FFA chapter showing animals and serving on the officer team. My grandpa was also involved in his FFA chapter, and he was an ag teacher in Cordell, Oklahoma before he began his banking career,” said Bryant.
Serving as the local chapter reporter and competing with the Agricultural Communications team, Bryant somehow finds the time to show livestock.
“I have been showing pigs since the summer of 2018. During that time, I think I have shown almost every breed except a Hereford and a Poland. I usually show gilts,” said Bryant.
Asides from FFA, Bryant is a pitcher and outfielder on the varsity softball team.
“We have a really great group of girls on our softball team. We all push each other to work hard and to get better each day. We have a very talented team, and it’s been an amazing season,” Bryant said. “This season, we got a new player, Maci Thain. She has been a great addition to our team coming in clutch for us a couple of times. She has been a great teammate. It feels like she has been part of us for a long time. We love having her on our team.”
Bryant plans to attend college where she hopes to obtain a degree in physical therapy. The junior said anyone interested in FFA should give it a try.
“FFA has something to offer everyone! You don’t have to live in the country, live on a farm, or show animals. FFA is a great way to develop leadership skills, participate in hands-on agricultural activities, and participate in a variety of career development events.”
