Weatherford’s Jossalynn Schulz – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Ace Hardware

Jossalynn Schulz enters her senior year at Weatherford High with a fire that hasn’t dimmed since last fall’s state championship run. She knows this season brings new challenges, but her focus remains the same: compete at a high level and lead by example. “We just want to compete,” Schulz said. “We lost key players, but we believe we still have a great core, coaches, and team leadership.”

For Schulz and her teammates, the offseason wasn’t about rebuilding—it was about staying sharp. “Not at all,” she said when asked if the preparation had changed. “Most of our returners have played travel ball this summer.” That continuity and commitment have kept the Lady Eagles sharp and ready to defend their title.

Still, with new pieces in the mix, the team is eager to hit the field and find their rhythm. “We’re just excited to get going to see what adjustments we need to make,” Schulz said. “There’s always room to grow.”

Their goals go beyond repeating last year’s success. “We want to continue to build on last year’s momentum,” she explained. “We lost some very key players, but we have several girls who have been playing elite ball all summer. We are excited to play in front of our home crowd.”

One of Weatherford’s biggest assets is their connection off the field. “We have good team chemistry, support, and leadership,” Schulz said. “That’s what makes us strong.”

Schulz plays primarily centerfield but has also spent time at shortstop and third base. Her instincts on the bases give her an edge. “Don’t get caught watching a play,” she said. “I’ll steal the extra base.”

She stays in game shape through a summer of workouts and high-level travel ball, which keeps her ready for the long season ahead. “It’s go-time. One pitch at a time,” she said of her game day mindset.

Looking ahead, Schulz hopes to be remembered not just for a title, but for the hard work it took to get there. “Of course, being part of the state championship team is memorable,” she said, “but mostly that hard work pays off.”

As she looks to attend college and continue her playing career, Schulz will leave behind more than stats and trophies—she’ll leave a standard for future Lady Eagles to follow.
