Weatherford’s Jackson “Cash” Weiberg – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Elk Supply Ace Hardware

When Jackson “Cash” Weiberg steps on the court, his focus is simple but relentless. “I want to get better every day as a player but also get better as a person and teammate as the year progresses,” the 6-foot junior said. A steady hand for the Weatherford Eagles, Weiberg plays both point guard and shooting guard, bringing leadership, grit, and heart to one of Oklahoma’s most competitive programs.

Weiberg has already experienced both sides of the sport’s highest emotions. “Our biggest strength is that we all love each other and have been through a lot together,” he said. “Every single guy that will get to play this year has either felt the very high of winning the state championship or the very low of losing one.” Those memories, both triumphant and painful, have forged a bond that pushes this team forward.

And that forward focus is crystal clear. “Our #1 goal is to get back to the state tournament,” Weiberg said. “Every day in practice, we continue to try and improve, get tighter as teammates, in order to inch towards that goal.” The team’s morale, he added, has remained strong through early-season adjustments. “We have a good problem in the fact that we have a good number of good players,” he explained. “Everyone is still figuring out their role and how they can contribute to the team.”

That shared purpose has only strengthened their chemistry. “I’d say we’ve really started to come together in knowing that we all have a common goal, which is to win basketball games,” Weiberg said. “We are very competitive and have a very large chip on our shoulders due to the fact that many people think we won’t be nearly as good as past teams here at Weatherford.”

On the court, Weiberg’s style is marked by intelligence and selflessness. “I always try to identify where the defense is weakest. Take what the defense gives me and my team. Make the simple play and be unselfish. Move the ball and be hard to guard.”

Confidence, he says, comes from preparation. “Honestly, I’m the best at my role,” he said. “The only reason I have any right to believe this is because of the work I’ve put in and the thousands of shots I’ve put up when nobody is looking.”

Off the court, Weiberg serves as a junior class officer and is active in FCA and First Baptist Church’s youth group. Looking ahead, he hopes to play college basketball— “at whatever opportunity I am blessed to receive.”

And when his time at Weatherford is over, Weiberg hopes his legacy is clear: “I want to be known as someone that was a hard worker and pushed others the right way. I want to be known for overall being a good person and teammate.”
