Weatherford’s Emma Ratterree – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Jackie Dickerson – Shelter Insurance

There is a lot of hard work and effort that goes into being a successful high school athlete. While the physical and mental work is important, it is also vital to have a great support system in place that will be there to support and encourage. Emma Ratterree says that she has made it as far as she has thanks in large part to some important people in her life.

“My brother is the biggest role model for me,” she said. “He is always supporting me and he’s played high school sports so he knows how it is and always talks me through the hard stuff. Also, coach Schamburg and coach Soss because they always support me and push me to be my best.”

Emma is a senior at Weatherford High School, where she plays soccer and volleyball. She is also a member of the Student Council.

As a dual sport athlete, Ratterree spends a lot of time preparing herself for competition.

“It has taken hours of practice and training and always believing in myself and my abilities,” she said.

Out of all of the opponents that Emma and her teammates face each season, she has one that she really enjoys to get the win against, for an obvious reason.

“Clinton is the team that I want to beat the most,” she said. “They are always a big game and it’s a rivalry game so there is a lot of pride and rights on line. So, beating them is always the best. The highlight for me so far would be beating Clinton in the quarterfinals my sophomore year and making it to state my junior year in soccer.”

Along with her own work, Emma knows that her teammates also play a big part in her success and she is thankful for each of them.

“The teammate that I like to practice against the most would be Braelee Epp,” she said. “She is a really good soccer player and it always helps me to practice against her. Macy Clark would have to be one of the more underrated players on our team. She is a very good player and she improves so much each year.”
