Weatherford’s Dasia Givens – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Eagle Realty- The Morley Group

There’s a calm confidence about Weatherford senior Dasia Givens when she steps onto the basketball court — the kind of presence that comes from years of dedication and leadership. As she enters her final season in a Lady Eagles uniform, Givens is locked in on finishing strong. “My personal goals for this season are to be looked at as a leader of the team on and off the court, to secure a spot in the state tournament, and to reach my 1000-point mark for my high school career,” she said.

That sense of purpose extends to her team as well. “In the time I have gotten to spend with the team it has always been a fun and uplifting environment,” Givens said. “We all get along really well, and I am excited for this year together.” It’s that bond, she believes, that fuels Weatherford’s success. “The biggest improvement I have seen from the team so far this year has been in our team fundamentals,” she added. “We have really started focusing on doing all the little things well, which helps improve our overall game all together.”

For Givens and the Lady Eagles, there’s one clear mission. “I would say our biggest team goal this year is to work to make it to the state tournament,” she said. “Our biggest strength as a team right now is our work ethic. We work hard in everything we do, and we put a major emphasis on it.”

As for her role on the court? “All of them,” Givens said with a smile. She reads the game like a true veteran. “I look for what the defense is giving me, so I don’t force anything.” Preparation is also key to her success. “I practice hard, eat healthy, and spend personal time with God,” she said.

Her mindset during competition is simple but powerful. “You are only as good as your next play,” Givens explained. “I have a ‘next ball’ or short-term mindset, so if the last play wasn’t my best I can make it up on the next one.”

As she reflects on her journey, Givens hopes to leave something lasting behind. “I want to leave a legacy of being a leader, and someone younger girls look up to,” she said. “I want to be remembered for always giving 100% effort and being an encouraging teammate.”

And if her game-winning buzzer-beater against Piedmont as a freshman is any indication, her legacy is already well underway.
