Addison ‘Addie’ Blackwell: Championship Mindset, Team-First Heart

Coming off a state championship season might tempt some to ease up. But for Weatherford’s Addie Blackwell, it’s only intensified her drive. “To be more vocal on the field, step into kind of a leadership role even as an underclassman, and continue improving both my mental and physical game,” Blackwell said. “I want to build off last year and show it wasn’t a one-time thing.”

Blackwell, a rising sophomore, understands that a title isn’t a destination—it’s a foundation. The Lady Eagles have made that clear in their approach to offseason work. “There’s definitely more intensity and purpose behind everything we do,” she said. “We know what it takes to win it all now, and we’re not easing up just because we won last year.”

That mindset has shown up in every rep. “Everyone’s showing up to summer workouts and putting in work in the field, barn and weight room,” Blackwell said. “It’s been cool to see how committed everyone is—even during the offseason.”

Weatherford’s goals are big, but they’re built on daily discipline. “We want to defend our state title, but we also want to keep building our program,” Blackwell explained. “That means holding each other accountable every single day in practice and making sure no one takes a day off. We’ve worked too hard to settle.”

Blackwell says the team’s depth is one of its greatest weapons. “We’ve got players who can step in any position and do their job,” she said. “Everyone knows their role and puts the team first. We have a lot of talented players that can play any position needed.”

She brings that same flexibility to her own game. A middle infielder and utility player, Blackwell also studies defenses carefully to create opportunities. “I look at how they cover a bunt and where the outfield is positioned,” she said. “That helps me decide what I need to do at the plate.”

Her preparation includes more than just drills. “I get in extra reps outside of practice so I’m confident and ready,” Blackwell said. “That’s what helps me handle high-pressure plays.”

On game day, she locks in. “I give it 110 percent and leave it all on the field.”

When asked about her legacy, Blackwell speaks with clarity and purpose: “I want to be remembered as someone who helps the program grow and be a good role model for the little ones watching.”

Whether she’s winning state titles, hitting in clutch moments, or mentoring future Lady Eagles, Addie Blackwell is helping shape the future of Weatherford softball. At 5’6”, she’s a multi-sport athlete who also plays basketball and runs track, while staying active in student council and FCA. Her plans after graduation are equally ambitious: “I want to go play softball in college.”
