Weatherford Mom of the Month: Carrie Schmidt – Presented by More than Medicine

In the bustling community of Weatherford High School, one dedicated sports mom stands out for her unwavering support and involvement. Carrie Schmidt, a proud alumna of Weatherford Public Schools, has turned her passion for her children’s activities into a beacon of encouragement and assistance for the entire sports program.

Carrie’s journey as a “sports mom” began with her daughter Braylie’s entrance into volleyball in the seventh grade. As Braylie moved into high school, Carrie’s involvement deepened. “My friend Julie asked if I would be interested in helping organize and gather supplies for the concession stand and various other needs for WHS volleyball. I was glad to jump in and it has been a lot of fun working together to help our volleyball program,” she shared.

The joy Carrie finds in her role is multifaceted. “I love being able to cheer on my kids in the activities they enjoy! It is a privilege to support them and be at all their games,” she said. Her dedication goes beyond mere attendance; it’s about fostering a supportive environment where athletes can thrive. “There are a lot of things that you learn in sports that can apply to so many areas in life that are off the court.”

Carrie’s inspiration to support Weatherford’s programs stems from her own school experiences. “I also attended Weatherford Public Schools, so it is fun to watch my kids now go through the school and its programs,” she explained. Her pride in the school and its teachers and coaches motivates her to give back and support their efforts.

Carrie’s involvement doesn’t stop at her children’s sports. She emphasizes the importance of being an involved parent. “It encourages my kids and teaches them the importance of showing up for those you love and supporting others with our time,” she said. This philosophy not only benefits her children but also strengthens the entire sports program.

Carrie’s contributions to Weatherford’s volleyball program are immense. She is seen as an encourager and supporter, ready to assist with any needs that arise.

Carrie credits several other moms for their collaborative efforts. “Julie Stalder is a rockstar in helping organize and teaching you all you need to know for a booster program to run well and the other moms that make up an awesome booster team,” she noted, highlighting the teamwork that makes their support system so effective.

Gratitude extends to Scott Miller, the volleyball coach, who fosters a family-like team atmosphere. “He does an excellent job in creating a team ‘family’ and reminding the girls that they are in this together.”
