Elk City’s Luke Friesen – Football Spotlight – Presented by The Battin Barn

Luke Friesen is a senior at Elk City High School, and he sees football as more than just a game. Instead, it’s a commitment to consistency, accountability, and representing his community with pride. As the team’s right tackle, Luke has worked his way into a key role on the offensive line, where his reliability and leadership help set the tone for the Elks.

Luke’s journey in athletics has been shaped by the high expectations his parents instilled in him from an early age. “My parents have always had high expectations for me and taught me the importance of giving my best and doing the right thing,” Luke said. “Now, I feel like that motivation comes from within.”

His biggest role model, however, is closer to home, his older brother, Mason. “He has set a great example for me by showing me the importance of setting goals to better myself and staying focused and driven on achieving those goals,” Luke explained.

Another guiding figure in his life has been Coach Maynard, who has taught him the importance of accountability both on and off the field. “From day one, he has instilled in us as players the value of being good men outside of football,” Luke said.

Luke’s hard work has paid off, with his first varsity start standing out as a career highlight. He especially enjoys competing against Weatherford, a rivalry that always brings out the best in Elk City. In practice, he finds camaraderie working alongside his fellow offensive linemen and is quick to give credit to the team’s unsung hero, Alex Yake, whom he calls “one of the hardest workers on the team.”

Off the field, Luke stays just as busy. He serves as treasurer for both Key Club and the senior class, is a student council representative, and is active in Interact, FCA, and chamber choir. Balancing schoolwork and extracurriculars comes down to “prioritizing and planning,” he said.

To Luke, wearing Elk City across his chest carries special meaning. “It’s an honor, and I appreciate all the support we get from our school and our entire town,” he said.

For a young man who values consistency, accountability, and hard work, Luke Friesen is a true example of what it means to be an Elk City Elk.
