Elk City’s Luci O’Hara – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by T&W Tire of Elk City

“Being a positive Christian influence is very important to me,” said Luci O’Hara, a sophomore at Elk City High School who competes in basketball, softball, and track. Whether playing guard on the basketball court, covering second base on the softball field, or running hurdles, Luci stays motivated by her faith. “I want to honor the Lord by working hard and getting the most out of what He has blessed me with.” That faith-driven mindset defines not just her athletic career but her approach to life as a whole.

Luci’s athletic achievements reflect her dedication to constant improvement. “Hard work and practice” have been the cornerstones of her success, driving her to become a key player in multiple sports. In basketball, she made an immediate impact as a freshman. “Being a starter as a freshman and our team making it to Area” stands out as one of the most rewarding experiences of her career so far.

While Luci is a fierce competitor on the court, her biggest motivation comes from her family, who have played an essential role in shaping her journey. “My family is truly one of my biggest influences. They love and support me and would do anything for me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without any of them.” This sense of gratitude extends to her community. “I have lots of family from Elk City, and when I play, I want to work hard for those people who support me in everything I do.”

In addition to sports, Luci is highly involved in several activities on and off campus. “I am a member of FCA, Interact, Student Council, and a church group youth leader,” she shared. Her leadership qualities and dedication to service are apparent not only in these roles but also in the way she approaches challenges. One person who has made a lasting impact on Luci is Mrs. Stover. “I have learned to stand up for the right things, even when it is hard,” Luci said, crediting the teacher with helping her develop a strong sense of integrity.

Looking ahead, Luci’s ambitions extend beyond high school. “I plan to attend OBU as a student-athlete,” she said, excited to continue both her athletic career and academic pursuits.

From balancing multiple sports to leading by example off the court, Luci O’Hara is proving that success is about more than just talent—it’s about heart, determination, and honoring the people and principles that shape her journey.
