Athletes invest a lot of time and effort to be at their best when they compete. Along with all the work they put in, it also helps to have people that will help you grow and stay focused. Krew Keyes has a few people that he says have helped him become the athlete that he is today.
“My biggest motivation is being better than the person I am going up against,” he said. “My brother, dad, and cousin always push me to do better.”
Krew is a sophomore at Elk City High School. He pitches and plays second base for the baseball team and also is a member of the basketball team. Outside of sports, he is also involved in the Future Farmers of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Key Club.
Whenever he competes alongside his teammates, Keyes says that he is proud to wear the Elks uniform because of the history his family has.
“It means a lot for me to play for our school,” he said. “It is special because my whole family went there and I get to carry on the tradition.”
Elk City baseball coach, Jay McClure, says that Keyes is a great kid and a solid athlete.
“Krew is a very talented sophomore,” McClure said. “He is a smart young player and is not scared of the moment. We look for Krew to have a big year for us this season and a bright future.”
Along with being a successful athlete, Krew knows that being a good student is also important. Not just for his future, but also to allow him to keep playing the sports he loves.
“I have to put in extra work to keep up with my grades,” he said.
