Elk City’s Kingston Dixon – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Western Oklahoma Realty

For Kingston Dixon, competing in three sports at Elk City High School is more than a schedule full of practices — it’s a way of life built around hard work, leadership, and constant improvement. “My personal goals for this season are to have a better record than last year and just be more competitive than last year,” Dixon said. That determination fuels the sophomore guard’s approach to every game and every practice.

The energy around the Elk City basketball program has been infectious heading into the new season. “The team morale has been pretty good,” Dixon shared. “The team is excited for this year and we’re ready to get better every day.” It’s a young, hungry group — one that’s eager to prove itself on the court and take another step forward.

That mindset has already paid off in noticeable ways. “The biggest improvement we’ve had as a team are our attitudes, work ethic, and effort,” he said. “We’ve been putting in the time and it’s showing.” That commitment comes from hours in the gym and the shared belief that success starts long before game night.

Dixon said the team’s goals are simple but ambitious. “A couple of goals we have this year is to have an improvement on our record and win districts,” he said. “We have open gym every Sunday for multiple hours trying to improve for this season. I try to shoot as often as possible in my spare time.”

When it comes to strengths, Dixon believes Elk City’s pace sets them apart. “Our biggest strength right now is how fast we’re able to get up the court and back down to play on defense,” he said. That balance of speed and teamwork will be key as the Elks chase their postseason dreams.

On the floor, Dixon plays point guard and shooting guard, a role that demands vision and quick decisions. “When I’m reading a defense, I mainly look to get past my defender and get an easy layup,” he explained. “But if the layup isn’t there, I’m able to pass to my teammates and get them open shots.”

Off the court, Dixon strives to set the right example. “My mindset every time is to have a positive attitude, good sportsmanship, and strive to be the best leader,” he said. “I want my legacy to be remembered as I was a good player, teammate, and all-around good person.”

A 6’1” sophomore, Dixon also competes in football and track, is involved in FCA, attends First Baptist Church, and even referees Kids Inc. youth games. After high school, he plans to play college basketball and pursue a career in meteorology. “People may not know how hard we’re working year-round,” Dixon said. “But we’re dedicated to improving — every single day.”
