“My ambition and will to succeed is my biggest motivation,” said Campbell Garbarino, a standout sophomore at Elk City High School. Whether it’s on the basketball court or the track, Campbell brings focus and determination to every moment. Playing as a combination guard, she embraces competition with herself to push her limits. “It has taken me countless hours of practice, pushing myself just a little harder, constantly being in competition with myself, and playing like it’s my last game, every game.”
Campbell’s love for sports goes hand in hand with her admiration for trailblazers who have shown what’s possible. “My biggest role models are Gabby Thomas, who attended Harvard University and is a 3x Olympic gold medalist, and Flau’jaeJohnson, who balances being a successful musician and playing basketball for LSU. They are walking proof that no dreams are too big,” she said.
A highlight of her young basketball career came last season, when Elk City battled Bishop McGuinness to advance to the area tournament. “It was a great atmosphere and a great team win,” Campbell recalled, reflecting on the importance of teamwork and resilience. Moments like this fuel her passion and inspire her to continue growing.
Her involvement doesn’t stop at athletics. Campbell is also an active member of Key Club, Interact, the National Honor Society, and serves on the FCA leadership team. Balancing sports and school, she values the lessons she’s learned from her mentor. “Coach Andy Peffer has had the biggest impact on my life,” she explained. “Although he has never been my teacher, he has taught me enough to qualify as one. He helped build my confidence as an athlete and a person. He taught me that the only way to do things is the right way.”
Playing for Elk City means more than just winning games for Campbell. “It’s an honor to play for my school and community,” she shared. “The fan support is encouraging, and I strive to set an example for younger girls.”
While she has no plans to pursue basketball beyond high school, Campbell knows exactly where she’s headed. “I plan to continue to run track and attend medical school in college,” she said. With her unrelenting ambition and clear goals, Campbell Garbarino is poised to make an impact both on and off the court. Her story is a testament to what can be achieved when hard work meets passion and the right role models.
