Brianna Decker has set herself apart as not only a talented musician but also a dedicated leader. A member of the Elk City High School band since the fifth grade, Brianna’s journey began with a lighthearted inspiration, her love for the cartoon character Squidward, who played the clarinet. What started as curiosity quickly grew into passion, and today, she excels on both the clarinet and tenor saxophone while leading her peers as head drum major.
Being a drum major requires more than musical skill; it takes leadership, poise, and the ability to motivate an entire program. Brianna has embraced that challenge. “Being the head drum major of the ECHS Band is no easy feat,” she said, “but being able to serve, help, and represent such a fine and well-established program is an honor I will forever be grateful for.”
Her success is built on discipline and determination. Memorizing full shows and learning to perform music at a high level demands focus and resilience. “It can be very easy to get down on yourself,” Brianna explained, “but every day is a new day in the band, and it’s important to remember that.”

One of her favorite highlights came when the band traveled to Florida for the Pop-Tarts Bowl, where they performed the halftime show. Performing on that stage, surrounded by her friends and teammates, was an unforgettable experience that she calls a “core memory.”
Brianna’s achievements extend beyond the marching field. She is active in the National Honor Society, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, musical theatre, Junior Class Committee, academic S.W.I.M. meets, Tour of Champions, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Her ability to balance these commitments with her music showcases the same qualities that make her a standout drum major: organization, persistence, and a drive for excellence.
She credits her parents, Jackie and Brian Decker, along with her band directors, for their constant encouragement. Looking ahead, Brianna plans to attend the University of Central Oklahoma to pursue a double major in forensic investigations and criminal justice, combining her love of learning and leadership with a commitment to service.
For Brianna, music, leadership, and academics all reflect the same truth: success comes from dedication, humility, and the courage to embrace challenges.
