Teams put in a lot of hard work and preparation in order to be successful when they hit the field or court. Something else that can be important in how a team competes is their chemistry, how well the team members work together.
Luke and Zack Zybach play together on a few different teams at Corn Bible Academy. Luke enjoys being on the same team as his brother and he appreciates how well they work together.
“It’s been a lot of fun and an opportunity very few people have,” he said. “We have a great relationship. Because we have been playing together for over ten years, we almost always know what the other one is thinking. In football I play center and my brother is the quarterback.
He trusts me to call out the right blocks to protect him. Because we know each other so well and because we trust each other, I always have a good sense of where in the pocket he is and can adjust my pass block accordingly. All in all I am very grateful to be able to play sports and make these memories with my brother.”
Luke, who is a senior, and Zack, who is a junior, are both on the football, basketball, and academic teams, as well as the Student Ambassador Leadership Team.
Both young men have had a number of people that have had an impact on their life, but they both agree that there are two people that have had the biggest influence on them.
“My mom and dad are my biggest supporters,” Zack said. “They have been to every game since I was in flag football. I always hear my mom yelling for my brother and I in the stand whether it’s football or basketball. My dad is always there after the games for me to talk to and he always gives me advice on things I need to change or get better at. No matter what they are always up in stands cheering their loudest for both of us.”
Along with being outstanding athletes and teammates, the Zybach’s are both solid students in the classroom. As athletes, they have to find the balance between school and sports.
“In order to be a good student, you have to have good time management,” Luke stated. “Being a part of so many things means I have to use my time wisely. I have no social media and when things get really busy, I delete YouTube. I set a high standard for myself academically and I work really hard to keep it. It really helps that I don’t always need a full eight hours of sleep to function.”
Zack agreed, “I’ve learned it makes things a lot easier if you pay attention in class and if you work hard. If you work hard and stay focused you can accomplish a lot in a short amount of time.”
