Corn Bible Academy’s Levi Bailey is already showing the mindset and work ethic of a seasoned varsity athlete, even as he prepares to begin his freshman year.
Bailey, who plays linebacker and tight end, credits much of his motivation to a strong influence at home.
“My dad inspires me,” Bailey said. “He always encourages me and pushes me to do better.”
That drive carries over into both the classroom and on the field. Bailey said math is his favorite subject, largely because of his appreciation for his teacher.
“Mr. Thiessen is my favorite teacher, and he also teaches math,” he said.
On the field, Bailey embraces the physical and mental demands of his positions. As a linebacker, he must quickly read plays and react, while at tight end, he faces the challenge of blocking larger, faster opponents.
“Linebacker, you have to be quick to read defenses,” Bailey said. “Tight end, you have to be quick to block bigger and faster kids.”
Despite the challenges, Bailey thrives in the competitive environment and values the camaraderie that comes with being part of the team.
“I enjoy being with my friends on the football field,” he said. “We are a close group of friends, and we all work hard for each other.”
One of Bailey’s favorite memories highlights both his determination and physical style of play. After catching a pass, he powered through multiple defenders in a single play.
“Catching a pass, then running over five people while trying to make a touchdown,” he said, recalling the moment. He also remembers a particularly wild sequence when a player turned back into traffic instead of heading straight for the end zone, delivering extra hits before scoring.
Experiences like those have helped shape Bailey’s understanding of the sport and its broader lessons.
“Football has taught me teamwork and discipline,” he said.
Off the field, Bailey keeps things simple. He enjoys spending time with friends, playing video games and heading to the lake when he gets the chance.
As for preparing mentally before games, Bailey sticks to a routine that helps him stay focused.
“I stretch and listen to music,” he said.
With a strong support system, a close-knit team and a growing passion for the game, Bailey is poised to make an impact as he begins his high school football journey at Corn Bible Academy.
