“My mindset when stepping on to the field is to play my game, do my best and leave it all on the field,” said Cordell junior Kinser Todd, a 6-foot-4 baseball and basketball athlete who prides himself on effort in every inning.
Todd has set clear expectations for his junior campaign. “My personal goal for this season is to maintain a high batting average throughout the season, and to lead the team to a regional win,” he said. To reach those goals, he leans on extra work. “I prepare myself by getting in as many swings after practice and before games to keep myself ready for a big hit game,” he said.
On the field, Todd brings versatility and awareness. “I currently play pitcher and third but can be moved around to anywhere I am needed,” he said. “When reading a defense, I look for big gaps and weak spots to put a good line drive or ground ball”.
He said the energy around the program has been noticeable. “The team has been excited and confident to have a great year,” Todd said. “One major team goal is winning 10 plus games this season, we are staying in the cages late at night getting swings in and staying after practice to take extra ground balls”.
Todd believes that bond and baseball IQ will be key strengths. “The team’s biggest improvement is our brotherhood, we are there for each other through anything and always ready to help each other when it’s needed,” he said. “I think that the team’s biggest strength currently is our on-field IQ and knowing what to do in fast situations”.
He also sees promise in the next wave of Cordell players. “Something people may not know is that we are going to have a very young but talented group of freshmen that will help a ton,” Todd said.
Looking ahead, he hopes his legacy is defined by leadership and effort. “When I graduate, I want to be remembered for being a great leader, always giving my all on the field, and leaving the team in a better place than when I started,” he said.
