Cordell High School’s Tralynn Moss – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Comforting Hands Hospice

Not every hype song has to be loud and fast—and for Cordell softball standout Tralynn Moss, her choice says a lot. “‘She Wouldn’t Be Gone’ by Blake Shelton,” Moss said. “It’s not really a hype song, but it definitely gets me going.” The sophomore’s approach to the game is just as thoughtful and intentional, combining leadership with quiet strength and steady drive.

“My personal goals for this coming season are to not compare myself to other players, not get down on myself over a mistake, put in extra work, and be a good teammate,” Moss said. It’s a mindset built on growth and self-awareness, traits that show up in the way she carries herself on and off the field.

That individual growth mirrors what Moss is seeing from her teammates. “I personally think our team has put in more work than what we did last year,” she said. “There is a lot of talent from these freshmen and I’m just ready to see what we can do as a team this season.”

For Moss, the most noticeable change this year is how the team shows up every day. “The biggest improvement I have seen from the team is the effort and the communication,” she said. “We’re starting to work better together and it’s making a big difference.”

The Cordell team has set goals that go beyond the scoreboard. “Some of the team’s goals are communication, being kind to one another, lifting each other up after we make mistakes instead of getting mad at each other,” she said. “Really showing up and putting in hard work, because effort does go a long way, and just having fun.”

Moss brings versatility and leadership to the diamond, playing catcher, shortstop, and third base. “I really just look at how close or deep they are playing,” she said, when discussing how she reads opposing defenses.

Physical preparation is key for her success. “I prepare myself physically just by making sure I get enough sleep the night before and drinking lots of water,” Moss explained.

“My mindset stepping on the field is to just play the way I know I can and to be a leader,” she added.

Whether it’s singing with teammates on the bus or stepping up in big moments, Moss hopes to be remembered for more than just stats. “The legacy I want to be remembered by is being kind, respectful, loyal, and just a great athlete.”
