Clinton’s Vincent Jones – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Bank 360 of Clinton

Vincent Jones is determined to make his final season in a Clinton High School uniform count, both for himself and for the future of the Reds’ baseball program. “One of my personal goals this season is to finish my last season of high school baseball strong,” Jones said. “I want to leave this program knowing that it will continue to grow and get better each and every year.”

That mindset has helped shape the culture around this year’s team. “The team morale this year has been good,” Jones said. “We have a group of guys that want to get better each day.” He believes chemistry plays a major role in success. “This group gets along well and a key detail in having a successful program is having a connection with your teammates, on and off the field.”

One area Jones has noticed consistent growth is the daily approach. “Everyone is ready to work each day we are at the baseball field and batting facility,” he said. That work ethic feeds directly into the team’s ultimate objective. “The main goal is always to win a state championship,” Jones said. “We need to out-perform every opponent and remain focused until the last pitch of the game.”

Confidence has become a defining trait for Clinton. “I think the team’s biggest strength right now is that we are all confident in how this season is going to go,” Jones said. “We just need to keep working each day.”

Versatility has been a constant throughout Jones’ career. “From coach-pitch baseball to high school, I have always played wherever I am needed,” he said. “My primary position is catcher, but I may be working in the outfield a little bit this year.” That adaptability extends to how he studies opponents. “I like to see how well they play catch before a game,” Jones said. “I also like to see how well their pregame round goes to see what positions are vulnerable.”

Preparation is non-negotiable. “I prepare myself physically by lifting weights outside of baseball,” Jones said. “I also stretch before practice and games. Recovery is also important, and I try to keep hydrated and rested.” Once competition begins, his focus narrows. “My mindset when I step on the field during practice and on game day is all business,” he said.

Jones hopes his impact lasts beyond the scoreboard. “I would like my legacy to be that people believe I competed and left it all out there each game,” he said. “I also would like people to believe I am helping change the standard for baseball in Clinton.”

While the roster is young, Jones sees promise. “We may be young, but we are capable and preparing well for this season,” he said. Some moments already stand out. “Hitting a triple to win a game” ranks high, he said, along with an upcoming Spring Break tournament in Broken Bow.

Jones also plays football. He is involved in National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes and plans to attend the University of Oklahoma to major in finance.
