Clinton’s Josselyn Gonzalez – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Misty Gossen Farmers Insurance

Josselyn Gonzalez, a senior at Clinton High School, exemplifies dedication and versatility as a multi-sport athlete, musician, and student leader. Josselyn actively participates in cheerleading, band, and volleyball, each offering unique challenges and opportunities for growth. “I play alto saxophone in band, I am a flyer for cheerleading, and I also played backrow DS for volleyball,” she shares.

Motivated by her desire to make a difference and grow personally, Josselyn draws inspiration from her father. “My dad is one of my biggest influences because he’s incredibly hardworking and encourages me to work hard,” she explains.

Josselyn’s academic journey has been shaped by impactful teachers like her Bio-Med teacher, Mr. Shane Brashears. “He gave us the opportunity to challenge ourselves to do better and explore different career options in the medical field, as well as introducing us to HOSA,” she says.

Balancing her various activities has required focus and discipline. “Staying focused and motivated, time management can be hard, so setting small goals has made it easier along the way,” she explains. Her efforts have led to moments of personal triumph, such as trying out for drum major. “That gave me the chance to be more confident in myself and learn valuable leadership skills.”

In addition to her sports and music commitments, Josselyn is involved in several organizations, including Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), Key Club, and the National Honor Society. Her leadership extends beyond the field and court, as she consistently strives to represent her school with pride. “Representing my school and community when I play means a lot to me. It’s about showing pride in where I come from, setting a good example, and giving my best effort to make everyone proud.”

Looking ahead, Josselyn plans to pursue a major in Radiology, with acceptance offers from colleges including the University of Oklahoma. Grateful for the opportunities provided by her teachers and mentors, she reflects, “Being part of these experiences has not only helped me grow personally but also allowed me to build friendships and connections.”
