For a student to join FFA, they usually have a background in agriculture or livestock. That’s exactly what Canute High School freshman Sayde Allen had when she first joined the FFA chapter at CHS.

“I started to show sheep when I was a little girl,” Allen said. “My parents helped me get involved with FFA and has always been involved with livestock.”

The FFA lifestyle is one that gives students an opportunity to experience new things and expand their way of seeing the world. For Allen, FFA is an opportunity to be around livestock with friends and family.

“I enjoy going to the livestock shows and hang out with my friends and show family. I am involved in show goats and sheep and then outside of that I judge livestock. I show lambs and goats and I love every second of it,” said Allen.

FFA is not her only activity at Canute High School. Allen is a member of SUTCO and serves as the vice president of the FFA chapter. She also plays varsity softball.

“I play third base. I love how our softball team was so close and supportive to everyone. I’ve enjoyed all of the juniors that have stepped up and have helped all of us freshman to get a feel for high school,” said Allen.

Allen said anyone interested in FFA should give it a try.

“FFA is an important part of our lives and FFA will have an impact on your life with what whatever program you go into,” said Allen.

While she may have a few years to think about it, Allen said she would like to attend college at Oklahoma State University and become a member of their livestock judging team.
