VYPE: What grade are you in and what sports do you play?
Lukas: I am a senior at Weatherford High School. I play football, wrestle, and run track.
VYPE: Who are some of your biggest influences or role models?
Lukas: My mom and my dad because they are both very hard workers. My mom runs marathons, and my dad trains in jujitsu. There would be some days that I would be getting up at 5 am for a morning workout, and they had beaten me out of bed and were getting ready for their morning run or class.
VYPE: What teacher has had the biggest impact on your life?
Lukas: Our middle school football coach, Coach Bell, has made a big impact on me. He keeps us in check and also gives me a hard time about how my little brother is tougher than I am. He’s a great person and hilarious.
VYPE: Which teammate do you enjoy working with the most in practice?
Lukas: In wrestling practice, it’s Ryker Smith because of his work ethic and how funny he is. In football, it’s JJ Grant. He plays scout team running back to help us on defense, and he runs the ball hard to give all of us a good look.
VYPE: What has it taken to be successful in your sports?
Lukas: Tons of hard work. I was never the most talented athlete. My freshman year, I ran a 6.02 40-yard dash and couldn’t bench 135, but just over freshman year, doing workouts on my own, I got my 40 time to 5.35 and I hit two plates on bench. I have only continued to work, and that was 4 years ago, so those numbers have only gotten better.
VYPE: What does it mean to you to represent your school and community when you play?
Lukas: It gives me a sense of pride. I also want to win even more because people took their time out of their day to come and watch our team compete.
VYPE: What does it take to balance your school work and the activities you are involved in?
Lukas: I take mostly honors classes, so the workload is a lot sometimes, but if i just take care of the work on time and don’t get behind, I get to have more time for activities outside of class.
VYPE: What clubs and campus activities are you involved with?
Lukas: I was a three-time class officer president. I’m a member of the student council and the Key Club. I’m also in the National Honor Society.
VYPE: Any other info that you think would be good to know?
Lukas: I’d just add that my faith in God keeps me grounded and motivated, and I hope others can find strength in Him the way I have.
