SAYRE EAGLES
Coach: CRAIG HIXON
5-5
OFFENSE
After a .500 campaign in 2024, the Sayre Eagles are looking to take the next step under head coach Craig Hixon. With a mix of returning talent and emerging young players, the Eagles are setting their sights on a playoff push in 2025. Confidence is high, and the team’s renewed sense of competitiveness has coaches and players alike believing in the direction of the program. The Eagles bring back several key contributors on offense and will lean on a ground-heavy attack led by senior running back Dustin McSorley (5-11, 195, Jr.). A powerful and explosive runner, McSorley can take over a game. He’s also a threat to throw the ball, giving Sayre versatility in their play-calling. McSorley’s return from a knee injury that sidelined him last season has been a major boost for the team. Cam Plummer (5-8, 145, Sr.) will take the reins at quarterback and will have weapons around him, including running back/wide receiver hybrid Jaden Mosser (5-7, 145, Jr.) and the physical presence of tight end/wide receiver Brayden Mosburg (6-4, 190, Sr.). Sophomore center Alex Chavez (6-2, 240, Sr.) anchors the offensive line, providing leadership and stability up front. Junior running back Coy Capehart (5-11, 205, Jr.) adds depth and speed to the backfield. One name to watch is senior Tate Bawden, a three-sport athlete and 4.0 student who’s expected to make his presence known this fall. With reliable hands and a natural feel for the game, Bawden could be a breakout star.
DEFENSE
The defense will be led by linebacker Zeke Curtis (5-11, 190, Sr.), who returns after leading the team with 85 tackles last season. His instincts and toughness set the tone for a unit that’s expected to be much improved. McSorley and Capehart will also start at linebacker, giving Sayre a hard-hitting and athletic core. Edge pressure will come from defensive ends Brock Helton (6-1, 190, Sr.) and Mosburg, both capable of disrupting plays in the backfield. Outside linebacker Ryan Beck (5-10, 175, Sr.) adds speed and range on the perimeter. Sophomore lineman Stone Mackey is poised to become a two-way starter and brings strength and grit to the trenches. With their physical style and deepening roster, the Eagles are ready to compete.
