Wynnewood senior Marques Williams is the kind of student-athlete every program dreams of having. A four-sport competitor, football, basketball, powerlifting, and track, Williams has earned the respect of teammates, coaches, and his community through his work ethic, leadership, and character.
On the football field, Williams lines up at both wide receiver and cornerback, where he’s known for his big-play potential. One of his most memorable moments came when he broke loose for a stunning 99-yard touchdown run, a highlight that reflects his speed, vision, and determination. That determination, he says, is key to his success. “You have to want to be the best and put in the work,” he said.
Motivated by his close-knit family, Marques credits his parents and grandparents as his biggest role models. “They always push me to be my best,” he shared. “They helped me get to where I am today.” He also points to Coach Sawyer as a major influence. “He’s someone I’ve known for years and someone I can talk to anytime.”
Marques thrives on competition, especially with teammate Briar Davenport, who shares his position. “We push each other every day in practice, and that helps us both get better,” he said. He’s quick to give credit to others, too, especially the offensive linemen. “They work hard every snap and don’t get enough credit,” he noted.
A member of the Black History Club and National Honor Society, Marques understands the importance of balancing academics and athletics. “Being a student-athlete means taking care of school first, always,” he said.
Off the field, Marques draws inspiration from athletes like Travis Hunter, a rising football star. “He’s a great player, and I hope to see him making plays on Sundays,” Marques said.
Representing Wynnewood is something he takes seriously. “It means everything to me,” he said. “I grew up here watching my brother play. The people in this town love football, and I look forward to playing in front of them every week.”
