Connor Hance – WOSC
When former Cache High School student Connor Hance was deciding where he wanted to spend the next four years, Western Oklahoma State College was an appealing possibility. When they came through with a shoot scholarship, it made the decision a very easy one for Hance.
“I am a freshman at Western Oklahoma State College. I got a shooting scholarship and when it comes to my future it allows me to pursue my degree without costing me a lot,” Hance said.
Every student faces some big adjustments when they leave for college and arrive on campus. Some adjustments are easy to deal with, while others take some time to get used to. Something Hance has figured out since arriving on campus.
“The biggest adjustment is that I’m now on my own, I have to pay bills and buy my own food. There’s no home cooked meal when I come home,” Hance said.
Being part of the shooting team at WOSC has helped. Hance said his teammates get along and every has become good friends. Like many of his peers at WOSC, Hance has found his favorite places around campus.
“My favorite place is Pioneer Point. They have pool tables and a ping pong table that I play with my friends,” said Hance.
For Hance, what makes WOSC the right place for him is the atmosphere, the faculty, his teammates and the location. His advice to new students, “stay on top of your grades,” said Hance. “My favorite class so far is intro to Animal Science. What surprised me the most is about how much all the athlete’s bond together.”
The lack of a home cooked meal has helped him find a new favorite place to eat.
“The best place to eat is Pioneer Eats, they make great food, and it’s all made to order,” Hance said.
