Marietta’s Caiden Baker – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Higginbotham Commercial Insurance

At Marietta High School, sophomore Caiden Baker is known for more than his skill on the baseball field or football gridiron; he’s known for his relentless drive to improve. Balancing roles as a catcher and outfielder in baseball, as well as competing in football and powerlifting, Caiden embodies what it means to work hard for every opportunity.

“My family and friends are what motivate me,” he said. “They always push me to do better and believe in me even when I doubt myself.”

Caiden’s journey hasn’t been easy. He admits that he’s not always the most naturally gifted athlete on the team, but that has never stopped him from grinding to earn his spot. Staying late after practice, working through extra drills, and putting in time with coaches who see his potential have become his norm.

“It has been hard to be successful in sports because I have never been the most athletic person, but I constantly have to work and earn my chance to play,” Caiden said. “My coach saw something in me and was willing to work with me, and that means a lot.”

One of Caiden’s biggest influences was his former teacher and coach, Coach Atwood. Though no longer at Marietta, Atwood’s impact continues to shape Caiden and his teammates.

“Coach Atwood taught my teammates and me how to be men. His teachings will always stay with me.”

For Caiden, success isn’t measured by stats or trophies; it’s about being part of something bigger than himself. His favorite moments come when he’s on the field with his teammates, many of whom he’s played with since Lions League days. Friendly competition with close friend and teammate Dawson Pass keeps him sharp and motivated to chase improvement each day.

“Dawson has always been bigger and stronger than me,” he said. “He’s one of the reasons I work so hard, because I’m always trying to beat him at something.”

Balancing academics with multiple sports can be difficult, but Caiden views it as part of his commitment. “I make it a priority to get everything done because if I don’t, I let the people around me down,” he said.
