As a senior point guard for Madill High School, Lamiyah Brown has become a leader whose confidence, fire, and work ethic set the tone for the Lady Wildcats. Basketball isn’t just a game for Lamiyah, it’s the place where she channels her ambition, represents her community, and continues to grow into the player she’s always worked to become.
Lamiyah’s motivation starts with her family. They push her to stay focused, stay grounded, and keep striving for better. Whether it’s her brothers’ strength or her dad’s work ethic, Lamiyah draws inspiration from the people closest to her. But she also leans on her role model, Stephen Curry, whose confidence and relentless training mirror the mindset she brings to the gym. Even music plays a role in her motivation, her favorite rapper reminds her to go harder, believe in herself, and never lose sight of her goals.
One teacher who made an impact on Lamiyah’s journey is her junior-year English teacher, Mrs. Potter. Even outside of sports, she supported Lamiyah as an athlete and encouraged her to stay locked in on and off the court.
For Lamiyah, success in basketball comes down to one thing: the grind. Staying consistent, working when no one is watching, and outworking the next person have all shaped her into the competitor she is today. One of her favorite career moments came as a freshman at Springer during the Wilson Tournament, when she dropped an opponent with a move and blew her a kiss, sending the crowd into chaos and proving her game speaks for itself.
Facing Kingston is always personal for Lamiyah, and beating them carries a special energy. She also credits teammates like Arlette, whose work ethic matches her own, and younger players like Jade and Karma, who are finally getting the recognition they deserve.
Balancing school and basketball takes discipline, but Lamiyah handles it with pride. Representing Madill means something deeper to her, it’s about carrying herself the right way, honoring her school, and giving everything she has every time she steps on the court.
