HEALDTON BULLDOGS

GIRLS

Coach: Michael Owen Philips

23-24 Record: 14-12

The Lady Bulldogs are coming into this season ready to build off of last year’s success. Michael Owen Philips’ squad is bringing back a lot of familiar faces and he looks forward to seeing how well they can do this year. “We have an experienced group of girls,” Philips said. “We have all five starters back with three having started since their freshman year. We have a group that are coming off the bench that have time at the varsity level as well. We’re excited to get this season going.” One of the key returners to this year is Jaclyn Lara (5-9, Sr.) and coach Philips says that she is as good of a person as she is a basketball player. “Jaclyn is simply not just the best basketball player I’ve ever coached, but just simply the best,” he said. “I’ve been coaching for 31 years now, and she is the hardest worker, puts in the most time, and has the most passion of any player I’ve ever coached. The time she puts in to hone her craft is astonishing. She is the best leader I’ve ever coached. She is always talking, to put the team in the right place physically on the floor, but also keep them in the right frame of mind. She can score from every spot on the floor, she plays the 1-5 positions and can guard those same positions as well.” Peyton Stewart (5-8, So.) is another member of the team that will have a big impact. She is steady and never seems shell-shocked. She has grown a few inches since last year, but will still handle the ball and take care of point guard duties. She is a tough matchup now because of her size and her ability to shoot the ball from a standstill and on the move makes her very dangerous. A freshman this season, Joclyn Lara has a lot of potential. She can shoot the three, but has the body and the tenacity of a post. She defends hard, but very skillful on offense. Other members of the team that will look to contribute this season are Angelina Powell (5-6,  Sr.), Danica Thompson (5-8, Jr.), Jeriann Riner (5-5,  Jr.), Allie Pickelseimer (5-6,  Sr.), Raegn Wingo (5-8,  Sr.), Kaycee Chancellor (5-7,  So.), Addy Schoonover (5-6,  Jr.), Jentri Riner (5-5,  So.), Kendall Pierce (5-6,  Jr.), Alexis Wilson (5-7,  So.), Kaylee Smith (5-7,  Jr.), Alexis Davoult (5-7,  So.), Ryleigh Veal (5-8,  So.), and Kyeisha Wilkerson (5-6, So.).
