Central Marlow’s Karsen Ketner – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Coaches Corner

Central Marlow High School senior Karsen Ketner is a veteran at fast pitch and slow pitch softball. Karsen plays the position of first base for the Central High School Broncos. She has been playing softball for 13 years.

Asked what it means to represent her school and community, Karsen explained, “It means everything to me. It is an honor to get to be able to put on my jersey and represent our little school and community.”  

In regards to Karsen’s biggest role model, Karsen looks towards family. Karsen stated, “My parents are my biggest influences. They push me to be the best version of myself. I want to work as hard as they worked to be successful.”

In terms of what motivates Karsen, she proclaimed, “Success motives me. I know we will not always be successful but I love the work it takes and the feeling of success when it pays off.” 

As far as what it has taken Karsen to become successful in softball, Karsen stated, “It has taken hard work when no one is looking. The motivation to work hard when you really do not want to is when you become better.”

Every student athlete has a moment that stands out as a cherished memory in sports. Karsen stated, “That highlight moment for me was making it to the state tournament.”

Most student athletes have a favorite teacher that they look up to. “For me, Mrs. Gatewood, my high school science teacher, has always been a big fan of mine and had my back. She has always pushed me to do great things and is always there when I need her support. 

Outside of the softball diamond, Karsen has a plate filled with other extra-curricular activities, including being her Class President, a member of the Fellowship of Student athletes, being the Vice President of Student, and is a member of The National FFA Organization.

After high school, Karsen plans on pursuing higher education. Karsen stated, “After graduating high school I will attend Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and pursue a degree in nursing.”
